Mercy Behavioral Health
Mercy Behavioral Health serves Allegheny County by helping people with behavioral health and developmental challenges to regain or achieve satisfying and meaningful roles in community life. We do this by providing an integrated array of services and supports driven by the person and his/her family. This work is guided by our core values of respect for each person, justice, community, commitment to the poor, stewardship, courage, and integrity.
Accomplishments
- Established Recovery Advisory Council
- Trained 300 staff in basic recovery concepts
- RMP training for 20 people, 3 people trained as trainers
- Three people certified as WRAP trainers
- Four recovery presentations to managers and supervisors in the last two years
Future Projects
- Rolling out the WRAP and RMP process to wider utilization within MBH
- Explore dual recovery and the shared principles of D&A recovery and MH recovery through focus groups and dialogue groups
- Develop ways to use the electronic Integrated Service Plan to increase consumer involvement in service planning and recovery
- Make consumer and family friendly information on services available in order to increase informed choices with respect to services
Challenges:
- Sustaining the momentum for change in a large and diverse organization
- Integrating a variety of recovery related efforts throughout the organization
- Finding flexible funding to allow for more creative approaches
- Finding and developing more consumer leadership
- Getting the AOD recovery customers more active in behavioral health recovery activities
- More meaningful involvement for family members and behavioral health customers in various levels of the organization
