Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic

WPIC, part of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, has been serving the needs of the community for more than 60 years. Our vision is that persons of every age living with mental illness and/or addiction will be able to lead the healthy, meaningful and productive life they desire. Through many community-based programs, we offer treatment and services to individuals and families across the life span. We provide education and training to the community and health care professionals across the region, and we conduct research to find new answers. We are guided in our quest through commitment to our mission, our values, and our partnership with our community and those we serve.

  • 60 staff across all service lines and programs
  • Consumers join the Hiring Interviews for key positions
  • Internal Recovery Team across inpt/outpt – 40 champions (staff, consumers and family members)
  • Hiring Consumers in food service/retail
  • Revised Assessment Protocol with Focus on Recovery
  • Mandatory Staff Training Module on Treatment Planning Developed with Recovery focus
  • Developed Consumer Steering Group : Together LET S ACT (Learn, Educate, Teach, Serve, Advocate, Change and Transform with consumer co-chair
  • Initiating system wide communication campaign, led by consumer advisory group
